In studying music preferences among Canadians, the continuous music network dug up some little known facts about the musical choices of our pets.
Dogs and cats, like people, are responsive to music and have their favourite genres, say animal behaviourists. Some are classical aficionados, others may choose soulful ballads. But vets confirm that almost all pets left alone for long stretches prefer soothing tunes to silence.
That's why 53% of pet owners in Canada and the US turn on music for their animals when they go off to work, according to a 1998 poll by the American Animal Hospital Association. (AAHA).

Vets concur with the music pros. They say those suggested types of music can help pacify pets suffering from separation anxiety or boredom. By contrast, loud music is known to prompt screaming in parrots and agitate other animals.
